Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Hyperhidrosis Treatment (Excessive Sweating)
in Cyprus, Greece & Malta
Excessive sweating is a condition that can be a huge burden for many people, especially during the summer.
It is a very common symptom for people living in countries where the weather is almost always warm, such as Cyprus, Greece and Malta.
It may pose an important psychological impact on patients, disrupt their everyday activities, and affect their social and business relationships.
What Is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the excessive production of sweat from the body’s sweat glands. It usually affects the armpits, palms, face, genitals and bottom of the feet (soles), causing one or multiple episodes a week while patients are awake.
Hyperhidrosis is not necessarily related to intense exercise or stress. Many people sweat when they work out, are under pressure, or are in a very warm environment, but that can be normal sweating.
People who suffer from hyperhidrosis feel the sweat dripping off their palms and soaking through their clothes. This type of heavy sweating often causes patients embarrassment, anxiety, lack of confidence, depression, and social avoidance.
Excessive Sweating Treatment With Toxins
Effective treatment for primary hyperhidrosis is the use of toxins in the axillary area (underarm).
The treatment is fast and painless as a numbing cream is applied to the area of treatment. The doctor uses a very thin needle and makes numerous tiny injections of toxins in the axilla, about half a centimeter away from each other.
The injectable drug temporarily paralyzes the skin’s small muscles, which are responsible for the secretion of sweat from the sweat glands.
The results are evident within 2-3 days and can last up to 6-9 months.
For many doctors, hyperhidrosis treatment with toxins is the number one choice as it has long-term results and no significant side effects.
Hyperhidrosis Surgery
Abnormally excessive sweating can also be permanently treated with surgery. Yet, surgical treatment is not effective-guaranteed and may cause side effects.
The plastic surgeon might suggest the solution of surgery if the other non-invasive treatments did not solve the problem.

FAQs for Hyperhidrosis Treatment (Excessive Sweating)
Can you cure hyperhidrosis permanently?
Yes, you can cure hyperhidrosis permanently with surgery. However, a non-invasive treatment, such as toxins, is preferred over surgery, because it is safer and more effective. You can repeat the toxins therapy every 6 to 9 months targeting the problematic area.
Even though surgical treatment of hyperhidrosis is permanent, it may cause serious complications and side effects, including scars, excessive sweating in another body area (reactive hyperhidrosis), or nerve pain.

What causes sweating too much?
When your body temperature rises, your nervous system triggers the sweat glands automatically to cool itself down.
When the nervous system becomes overactive, without being triggered by a very warm environment or physical activity, the patient suffers from primary focal hyperhidrosis or abnormally excessive sweating.
There is no known medical cause for primary hyperhidrosis, but it can be an inherited condition that runs in the patients’ families.
Another type of excessive sweating is secondary hyperhidrosis which occurs due to several medical conditions. It causes heavy sweating all over the body, yet it is much less common than primary hyperhidrosis. Some medical conditions that can cause secondary hyperhidrosis are the following:
- Thyroid problems
- Infections
- Diabetes
- Menopause
- Nervous system disorders.
Can hyperhidrosis be cured?
Yes, we can treat hyperhidrosis with non-invasive procedures, such as toxins injection in problematic areas.
In rare cases where non-invasive treatment is ineffective, patients talk with their doctor about the possibility of undergoing surgical treatment for hyperhidrosis.
Is there a surgical treatment for hyperhidrosis?
Indeed, there is always the possibility of treating hyperhidrosis surgically.
Yet, surgical treatment is not always effective and may cause side effects.
