Looking for breast augmentation in Cyprus? Dr. Stavrou performs breast augmentation procedures in Cyprus (Nicosia & Limassol), as well as in Greece and in Malta.
The breast is probably the most significant external identification of femininity. This is why breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures performed at the European Institute of Plastic Surgery.
Also known as “boob job”, the breast augmentation procedure aims to improve the shape and size of the breasts and help women restore their confidence and improve their overall quality of life.
The primary goal of breast augmentation surgery is to naturally increase the size of your breasts using breast implants, a fat transfer, or a combination of both.
What is Breast Augmentation?
A breast’s size and shape change over the years due to many factors such as pregnancy, menstruation, hormonal issues, weight loss and other reasons. Breast augmentation is the ideal procedure for the enlargement and sculpture of small, asymmetrical or deflated breasts. It is also an appropriate procedure for women who want to regain the volume and shape they’ve lost over time.
Breast augmentation is a type of plastic surgery performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon places breast implants underneath the chest muscle or behind the breast tissue. Breast implants come in various shapes and sizes. Dr. Stavrou works only with cutting-edge implants of superior quality.
During your initial consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your goals, desires, body shape, asymmetries and add his vast experience during your consultation to help determine the most proper implant type, size, and technique that will give you the most beautiful results.
What Are the Types of Breast Augmentation Techniques?
There are distinct surgical approaches for a breast augmentation procedure. Each procedure varies in regards to implant placement and incision placement. During the consultation process, the surgeon talks the patient through the surgical approach that best fits their individual needs.
Breast implant placement should suit the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic goals. There are two main types of implant placement:
- Under the chest muscle (sub-muscular/dual plane): Recommended for patients with little breast tissue and thin skin in the breast area. This breast implant placement is designed to look and feel natural as the natural tissue covers the implant. There is a clear separation between the breast tissue and the implant for more efficient and easier mammograms.
For the breast augmentation incision placement, Dr. Stavrou places breast implants in one of the following sites through inconspicuous skin incisions:
- In the inframammary fold (IMF): This incision is the most common and the most preferred for breast implant placement. It has been shown to have a decreased risk of complications such as capsular contracture and loss of nipple sensation. It also gives more direct access to the muscle and the pocket to place the implant into.
- Around the areola (Periareolar): This incision is placed between the darker areola skin and the lighter skin of the breast. It is linked with higher capsular contracture rates and possibly decreased nipple sensation in comparison to the IMF incision

Hybrid Breast Augmentation
The Hybrid Breast Augmentation is a combination approach of breast implants along with an autologous fat transfer to create even more optimal results in the breast shape, size and contour.
Fat grafting refers to the process of “harvesting” fat cells from a part of the body where a patient stores their stubborn fat, such as the abdomen, inner/outer thighs.
The fat cells are collected in a sterile container in the operating room and then washed and further prepared by gentle washing and straining to be reinjected into the breasts.
Fat graft is transferred to small syringes and then directly injected into the breasts to camouflage contour irregularities and deformities. Fat can also be very effective in patients with very little breast tissue as a barrier between the implant and the overlying skin to decrease the chance of rippling.
What Does Breast Augmentation Surgery Involve?
Step 1: Anesthesia
The first procedural step is anesthesia performed by a certified anesthesiologist.
Step 2: Incision
The surgeon performs an inconspicuous incision in the infra-mammary fold, around the areola or inside the axilla, as explained above. Dr. Stavrou plans a patient’s incision placement based on the size and type of implant and anatomical factors.
Step 3: Implant placement
The surgeon might place the implant under the chest muscle or behind the breast tissue, as analyzed above. The implant placement planning depends on the breast tissue, the condition of the skin, and the patient’s unique anatomy.
Dr. Stavrou strives to preserve the breasts’ natural physiology and make it possible for women to breastfeed and nurse after breast augmentation surgery.
Step 4: Closing the incision
The incision is closed in layers that ensure minimal, no visible scarring.
Recovery after Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure. You can expect to walk around on your own a few hours after surgery, and most patients feel up to leaving the house within the next day or two.
During the first 48 hours, you may experience an elevated body temperature, fatigue, and soreness. Do not panic if your breasts appear a bit larger than expected. Major post-op swelling resolves quickly. You could also experience a feeling of tightness in the chest area as your skin adjusts to your new breast size.
Immediately after surgery, you will need to wear the medical compression bra and a chest band we give you post surgery. This support garment will minimize movement and maintain the carefully constructed pockets Dr. Stavrou created for your implants.
Keep your arms and elbows close to your sides and avoid lifting weights until allowed by the surgeon. Return to light everyday activities begins gradually from the first post-op day. Most patients can resume work and physical activities after two weeks, starting with lower-body exercises and slowly building to full-body muscular activity.
Take post-op medication exactly as prescribed and contact the surgeon immediately if you have concerns about them. We can always adjust them if needed.
The outcome of breast augmentation continues to improve as the breast implants settle into their final position. Results are fascinating and long-term. However, changes in body weight and/or pregnancy might alter the breast’s appearance.
Each patient heals in a unique way, but particular measures that can speed up the recovery.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation at the European Institute of Plastic Surgery is a safe and secure procedure for people who are not fully satisfied with the size and shape of their breasts. It helps to enhance the form of the breast, offering it fullness, symmetry, enhanced definition and projection.
The result is a natural-looking cleavage that restores patients’ confidence. Breast augmentation aesthetic surgery is the only safe and successful method for breast augmentation. Diet, exercise or “miracle breast enhancers” cannot enhance the size and shape of breasts.
Dr. Stavrou carefully assesses the patient’s breasts, skin condition, muscle tone and body proportions. He also examines the patient’s general medical history and potential allergies. The patient should inform the surgeon about previous breast surgeries, family history of breast diseases, pregnancy, childbirth and lactation. Moreover, it is important for the surgeon to understand your concerns and cosmetic objectives. After a thorough consultation, the surgeon will inform the patient whether breast augmentation is suitable and safe for their situation.
Most candidates for breast augmentation are young women who have not achieved the breast size and shape they desire and women whose breasts have changed after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Young women should have completed their development before opting for breast enlargement surgery. For women who have lost volume due to hormonal changes, weight loss or childbearing, breast implants are ideal for restoring a youthful breast look and rectify skin laxity.
The most suitable candidates for breast augmentation are healthy women who have realistic cosmetic objectives. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Demetris Stavrou, please contact his office today.
FAQs for Breast Augmentation
What implants are used for breast augmentation?
Breast implants add or restore breast volume. They also create a more proportionate and symmetric look and improve your figure’s contour. Today, breast implants are innovative, tech-advanced and much safer. The type and projection of the implant depends on the patient’s cosmetic goals, skin, breast tissue and anatomy.
Designed with your safety as our top priority, the smooth silicone implants not only look good, but they also feel and move naturally, mimicking the real breast tissue, maintaining softness over time.
How long is breast augmentation surgery?
The average duration of a breast augmentation surgery is 30 to 40 minutes unless combined with another procedure.
How long do you wear a surgical bra after breast augmentation?
Following a breast augmentation procedure, you need to wear a surgical bra for 6 to 8 weeks. It is important for the patient to follow the surgeon’s instructions thoroughly.
When does tightness go away after breast augmentation?
The feeling of tightness after a breast augmentation procedure may last from 3 weeks up to 3 months. While major post-op swelling should resolve quickly, your breasts may remain swollen and tender to touch for a month or longer. The patient typically experiences a noticeable change after week 2. The implants start to settle on week 3.
Is breast augmentation recovery painful?
Patients experience some manageable pain during the breast augmentation recovery process. The surgeon will prescribe pain medication, especially for the first 2-3 days post-op, to soothe and control pain and discomfort.
What’s the average cost of breast augmentation?
The average cost of breast enlargement depends on the country, type of implants and the doctor. An experienced doctor guarantees a safe procedure and successful results. Thus, it is more important to invest in the doctor’s experience, ability, education and skills. Health insurance usually doesn’t cover breast augmentation costs as it is cosmetic surgery.
Can you do a breast lift and augmentation at the same time?
It is possible to combine breast augmentation with mastopexy in a procedure called Augmentation Mastopexy.
Implants can restore lost breast volume, but they cannot defy gravity. If a moderate/severe amount of sagging exists, adding an implant is unlikely to produce an aesthetically pleasing outcome.
A breast lift can correct sagging and raise the nipple. Combining the two procedures can ensure that any breast size increase looks natural with your proportions and is aesthetically pleasing in and out of clothing.

What Will My Scars Be Like after Breast Augmentation?
No matter what incision type is chosen for your breast augmentation, Dr. Stavrou will be taking the utmost precautions and utilizing many advanced methods to relieve tension and prevent poor scar healing.
While scar formation is natural after surgery and is largely based on your body's ability to heal, most scars tend to fade over time and eventually turn into a fine, thin line.
Moreover, incisions are beautifully camouflaged underneath the breast and can be completely obscured when wearing a bra or bikini.
Will I Need Additional Surgery after Breast Augmentation?
Your surgeon will follow up with you in the long term and ensure that you are still looking good and feeling good many years after your surgery.
Nothing can stop the normal aging process; over time, breast tissue will change. Also, your personal preferences and your lifestyle might change. Therefore you might seek an implant removal, replacement, or adjustment of size.
There is no reason to undergo any additional aesthetic surgery unless you are experiencing a problem or you wish to have another procedure in the future. Dr. Stavrou advises that you begin thinking about exchanging them around 10-15 years after placement based on clinical data.
